Corgi Cameo

During the period when the Corgi brand was under the ownership of American toy giant Mattel Inc., a distinctive line of vehicles known as Cameo was introduced. While the original production facility in Swansea, Wales, remained partially active, much of the manufacturing was shifted overseas. Mattel continued with the existing plan to collaborate with the Hong Kong-based Flying Dragon Company, enabling production to move to China.

Unlike the classic die-cast models Corgi was once known for, the Cameo range featured plastic-bodied vehicles, reflecting a wider industry trend toward cost-efficiency and faster turnover. Though these models were simpler and aimed at a changing market, they marked a unique phase in Corgi’s evolution.
